The 100 Greatest Brooklynites of All Time: 70 to 61
We once saw Park Slope resident John Turturro—born in Brooklyn, but raised in Queens from age six—outside the Pavilion movie theater, buying tickets; through his whole interaction with the clerk, he was talking on his cell phone, which we thought was kind of dickish, once being in retail ourselves. Then again, celebrities are always talking into (or at least fiddling with) their cell phones, obviously in an attempt to keep fans from bugging them. And for someone as distinctive as Turturro—not only among the culturati for his roles in Spike Lee and Coen Brothers movies but also among the hoi polloi for his Transformers appearances—we’re sure he needs to keep ’em at bay any way he can.
