The Fort Greene/Clinton Hill area has always been an important locus of culture in Brooklyn; a partial list of the writers and artists to have lived in its environs includes Walt Whitman, Richard Wright, Marianne Moore, Robert Mapplethorpe, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, and Mos Def.
