Now Year-Round—And More Than Just A (Very) Good Party
A Brooklyn success story never starts with someone getting pushed out of their space by condos, but if Brooklyn Night Bazaar is any indication, there’s a first time for everything. The event’s third year is also its biggest, now relocated to a new venue on Banker Street in Greenpoint after its former home on N. 5th became victim to development like so many other spaces in the neighborhood.The new 24,000-square-feet venue is smaller than the last, but “it’s already been a perfect fit,” event producer Katelind Root says. “Minimizing the warehouse vibe has made the space far less intimidating to visit, and our goal has always been to encourage people to revisit time again.” She adds, “Sure, we needed to drop our huge indoor soccer field, but now we’ve got black-light mini-golf.”
The Bazaar also offers food from vendors like Arancini Bros. and the Lobster Joint, a ping pong room, multiple bars, DJs, live bands, and 100 local vendors selling everything from custom iPhone cases to mermaid-shaped bottle openers, just in time for holiday shopping.
This new incarnation—the brainchild of Aaron Brudo and Belvy Klein—will become a permanent weekend fixture, transitioning from holiday pop-up to year-round institution, with a planned rotation of vendors, art instillations, a rumored summertime beer garden, and maybe even rock climbing. “We want to be a platform for small businesses, artists, musicians and nonprofit groups,” Root says. “Not that we want to take ourselves too seriously, but it was always meant to be more than just a party.” The intention comes across as soon as you step inside—the Bazaar is nothing if not a loving showcase for worthwhile local projects—but make no mistake: they’re still throwing a very good party.
