How I Tried to Become a Vegan (and How You Can, Too!)
After an evening of Christmas shopping on Smith Street, we stopped for dinner at a bistro on Court. When I took a bite of my quinoa and vegetables, it tasted peculiar, the nuttiness of the grain accentuated by some strange sauce that made it too bitter, too thick and fatty. “How’s yours?” my girlfriend asked blithely, munching on a well-prepared salad. I cocked a brow in her direction. “It tastes funny,” I said. “Try it.” She took a forkful and frowned. “That does taste funny,” she said. We puzzled for a minute, running the dish against the flavor profiles stored away in our memory banks without hitting a match. Finally, she said, “I think it’s butter.”
