Having a Beer with our Jameson ‘Drinking Buddies’
While the rest of the borough battled the cold, we handled the recent deluge of rain and sleet the only way we know how: with Jameson and our “drinking buddies.” At last, we got try firsthand the five Jameson barrel-aged beers made by breweries coast to coast last week. In partnership with Jameson, five breweries– Los Angeles’ Angel City Brewery, Seattle’s Hilliard’s Beer, Dallas’ Deep Ellum Brewing, Denver’s Great Divide Brewing Co., and New York’s Captain Lawrence Brewing–used Jameson barrels to create a new kind of barrel-aged beer.
We hung out at Crown Victoria and got to sample each of the beers, such as an Imperial Irish Ale from Angel City Brewing and the Jameson Whiskey Barrel Sour from Hillard’s. Each brewery brought their own flair and style to the brew, raising the standard for a barrel-aged beer. Then we sipped on Jameson’s newest whiskey in the collection, Caskmates, a whiskey aged in stout-seasoned barrels for a brown spirit bursting with cocoa, vanilla, and butterscotch notes. All that, plus games and good eats–you know it’s a good party when Master Cooper Ger Buckley cracks open a barrel for all to experience the true craft and collaboration in each and every sip of Jameson.
