Revelations and ragas: 13 things to do this weekend

So Mayor-Elect Eric Adams may think we are “so damn boring now,” but maybe that’s because he might possibly live in New Jersey? As it happens, Brooklyn nightlife has come booming back.

Allow us to round up the shows you won’t want to miss this weekend, from Seb Wildblood at Public Records to Danny Krivit at Good Room. You can also check out Brooklyn Museum’s latest exhibition, experiment with natural dyes at New York City’s oldest house, and party with The Soul Rebels at Brooklyn Made.

Friday, November 19

Andy Warhol: Revelation
11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Brookyn Museum’s Warhol exhibition opens this Friday with daily screenings of his experimental film The Chelsea Girls (1966). “Andy Warhol: Revelation” is the first exhibition to examine the iconic Pop artist’s spiritual side. Read all about it before you go.

Pioneer Works: Ragas Live Festival
7 p.m.
Since 2011, Ragas Live Festival has expanded the boundaries of South Asian classical music. Their 2021 show is the finale of a 24 hour, 24 set broadcast featuring performances by an international community of musicians. Head to Pioneer Works to witness immersive sets from Brooklyn Raga Massive and Terry Riley, Innov Gnawa, Jay Gandhi & Abhik Mukherjee. This event is all ages and tickets are $25.

Mizz Softee with Anthony Parasole
10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Mizz Softee returns to Brooklyn with techno veteran Anthony Parasole, Hot Mass party founder Clark Price, underground DC legend Lisa Frank, and Mizz Softee resident Samuel Fish. Location is TBA and tickets are $30 in advance/$40 at the door.

Club Mayhem
11 p.m.
Dark Matter presents Club Mayhem: “a hardcore gala where the freaks come to play.” Sounds by Kilbourne, Jasmine Infiniti, Moment of Terror, DJ Infohazard, and Lachlan Driver. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Seb Wildblood Open to Close
11 p.m.
Public Records welcomes electronic DJ, producer, and label head Seb Wildblood. This all-night affair in The Sound Room is not one to miss. Tickets start at $17.25.

Saturday, November 20

Farmhouse Family Day: Natural Dyes
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Every third Saturday the historic Wyckoff House Museum hosts free activities and tours of New York City’s oldest house. Stop by for a natural dye workshop using plants from the museum’s garden.

Best of BAMkids Film Festival: Ready for Adventure!
11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Grab the kids: A selection of the most popular animated and short films for children 6-8 from BAMkids Film Festival 2021. Ready for Adventure! Is a 77-minute showcase of seven films from five countries, including this year’s BAMmie Award recipients. $14; $10 for children 13 and younger; $9 for BAM members.

Smack Mellon Opening Reception
5 to 7 p.m.
Dumbo based nonprofit Smack Mellon is unveiling two new art exhibitions this weekend. “Roots Burrow Through Stones and Hard Facts” is an immersive installation by Sara Jimenez with a sound environment by experimental composer Lau Nau. Rowan Renee’s “Airport Beach” combines textile and sculpture to document the Lavender Scare. Both installations are on view through January 2, 2022.

Nada Surf at Music Hall of Williamsburg
6:30 p.m.
Gen X alt-rockers Nada Surf bring their hooky, catchy and lyrically tender tunes back to Brooklyn this weekend. Their ninth album, “Never Not Together,” was released in February of 2020 … and we all know what happened next. Tickets start at $30.

The Soul Rebels at Brooklyn Made
7 p.m.
Eight-piece New Orleans brass ensemble The Soul Rebels bring their eclectic blend of funk and soul to the stage at Brooklyn Made. According to Tank and the Bangas, The Soul Rebels “bring New Orleans with them everywhere they go.” Tickets are $32.

X-Coast at Elsewhere
10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Serbian-born, Brooklyn-based musician Bojan Cizmic AKA X-Coast heads to The Hall at Elsewhere. X-Coast is joined by New York-based artist and producer Heathered Pearls, DJ No Hands, and trance experts Spyware and Miss Parker. This is a 21+ event and tickets start at $20.

Sunday, November 21

718 Sessions with Danny Krivit & Osunlade
6 p.m.
Seminal New York DJ Danny Krivit aka Mr. K will be spinning at Good Room Sunday evening. Krivit is joined by musician and Yoruba Records founder Osunlade with special guests Paul Raffaele and ​​​Barbie Bertisch. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door, and selling fast!

Baby’s Presents: Hyd
10 p.m.
Originally the face and co-creator of A. G. Cook and Sophie’s QT project, musician Hayden Dunham began operating under the moniker Hyd in 2020. Hyd launched their first solo release and self-titled EP this year. Tickets start at $16.20.
