Brooklyn’s Racist Fucking Real Estate
The dentist’s office that occupies a ground-floor office at 7502 Ridge Boulevard advertises that they “cater to cowards.” They also pay rent to them! A housing advocacy group filed a lawsuit yesterday against the Bay Ridge apartment building, the Post reports, alleging that its operators told prospective renters (actually undercovers) who were black that there were no apartments available to rent, but then told white inquirers that several were available right away here’s the broker’s number! You hear this sort of thing anecdotally often in Bay Ridge and in Brooklyn at large, and have for generations. In fact, Brooklyn has a rich recent history of racist post-redlining realtors.
